One of the most celebrated minds of the past century, Feynman was a champion of scientific knowledge so effective and so beloved that he has generated an entire canon of personal mythology. ![]() In his taxonomy of the two types of geniuses, probability theory pioneer Mark Kac distinguishes between “ordinary geniuses” and “magicians,” pointing to Richard Feynman (May 11, 1918–February 15, 1988) as a rare example of the latter. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Chamber cited a Thursday letter sent by Sanders, Warren and nine other Senate Democrats urging Biden to prepare to invoke the 14th Amendment. “Simply put, there is no alternative to reaching a bipartisan agreement to raise the statutory debt limit.” “The legal uncertainty around this debt combined with increased interest costs would impose significant and long-term costs on the economy similar to default,” Bradley wrote. Their backgrounds set up Diana and Matthew nicely for a Romeo and Juliet style romance. ![]() A quick introduction to Diana's family shows they're concerned she uses her magic so infrequently while a look at the other witches across the board has their species leaning in the direction of hoping to wipe out Vampires. The witches might not be as magnanimous, at least up front. There is a lot to be said about vampires who feel so keenly about those they would sire and the consequences of unintended actions.Īfter years watching the vamps of The Vampire Diaries universes go on blood-soaked rampages against innocents with nary a reservation, it's nice to find a group who might hesitate before unleashing the carnage. If I knew there was a risk of failure, I never would have attempted it. If there would have been more time, I would have asked his permission. You’ll hope that in some way your family was close to a god or goddess and that you carry a tiny bit of that blood in your body. This is one of those stories that when you’re a kid, you’ll imagine yourself hoping to be a demigod. ![]() I know these books aren’t necessarily written with me in mind, but I still enjoyed it. And it’s my own ignorance that I didn’t know how good Percy Jackson was and how I would love this story just as much as I was a teenager reading books. The stories I’ve read in the past are the ones I grew up with (A Wrinkle in Time, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter), but I was a little too old for these books and so they went unread for very long. I don’t read much middle grade, so I’m never sure what to expect. ![]() And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse-Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As a result, House of the Dragon has the chance to present casual fans with a somewhat different power structure than the one they became familiar with over the course of Game of Thrones’ eight seasons. Indeed, where Game of Thrones began with both the Targaryens and their dragons all but extinct, House of the Dragon starts with the family near the height of its powers. There are also a number of dragons still alive and kicking at the start of the series. Robert’s Rebellion, which saw familiar Game of Thrones figures like Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon successfully oust the Targaryen family from the Iron Throne, won’t happen until 150 years or so after the events of House of the Dragon. When House of the Dragon begins, House Targaryen still rules (fairly) securely over Westeros. ![]() ![]() Her life has definitely been tragic so far and she’s no perfect character either. But Sybella’s story was really interesting, even though it’s more her personal story and less about Brittany’s history. ![]() I don’t want to go into too much detail for fear of spoiling anything, and it’s best to read it all by yourself. As she’s constantly surrounded by danger and betrayal, she’ll have to find out just which role Mortain has in mind for her. She tried to flee her old life by coming to the Convent of Saint Mortain but instead was trained to return and retake her place at court as a spy to the Convent. The second book in the His Fair Assassin-series follows Sybella, another Handmaiden of Death. I liked Ismae’s but I liked Sybella’s story even more. So, please be aware these review are several years old! So I will be posting first the old reviews, and then new ones where I picked up the stories. ![]() I’m a currently trying to finish some of my unfinished stories. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Her general innocence was bothersome, since she had a hard childhood and spent years globe-trotting. I had a hard time believing she didn’t understand a lot of modern colloquialisms. She’s very formal and sounded old fashioned. Josie’s manner of speaking was hard to get into early on. I haven’t loved her last 3 or 4 releases, but I really enjoyed this one. This read like an older KA novel, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
